be proofread, and then they are cut and pasted in the "dummy" the rough facsimile of the completed magazine.

After the "dummy" is made up stencils must be typed, following the exact format of the "dummy". This is the second time each piece of material which appears in THE LADDER is typed.

All largo headlines are made up by hand from "Art-Type" and then sont out to have negatives made from them.

After all the stencils are completed and the headline a have been returned from the photographer tho material must be "stripped in". This means the stencils are carefully taped in place in a paper frame, exactly as they will be printed.

When this is completed the material is delivered to tho printer to return at the end of the wook in bundles of pages. This is where THE LADDER work party comes in.

The pages must be correlated, folded, stapled and trimmed, and stuffed into the envelopes for mailing. Prior to the work party the Circulation Department has typed up duplistickers for each subscriber, pasted them on the envelopes, stamped the envelopes and placed the return address on them.

This, then, is the process your copy of THE LADDER goes through bofore it reaches your hands. And it is all done by volunteer labor. Many women work one night & week at the office but just before LADDER deadlim it usually is every night of the week.

As the DOB grows we hope the amount of money available for publication of THE LADDER will grow. And, to a great extent, this is dependent upon YOU. We cannot advertise our magazine in the usual channels. We are primarily dependent on word-of-mouth advertising.
